Fix: iPhone 3Gs Charging is not supported with this Accessory

Fix: iPhone 3Gs Charging is not supported with this Accessory

Everybody is getting frustrated looking for a fix for a glitch that iPhone is having with. Lots of iPhone users are complaining about getting an error while charging and this message will pop-up "Charging is not supported with this Accessory". What? It's not charging.

When I got this error while charging the iPhone 3Gs, I immediately search the internet if someone could be in the same shoe as I'm in and found out that I'm not the only one. I tried hard to look up for a fix and did several suggestions from the web but no to avail.

I got the dock and pins cleaned, even changed the wall charger and the cord, switched to USB charging and none of these worked out. So I concluded that there's no problem associated with the hardware. Until such time that I realized all this happened after I upgraded to the latest firmware (from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1). Dude, its a glitch on the software.

Wow, there are even suggestions that charging will work if Wifi is turned off and may be putting the phone in Airplane Mode. Some says it worked, some says not, and I said not to me neither.

Oh boy, there is no really a fix for this until we wait for Apple to release a new firmware update.

But wait guys, may be there's no fix for this but I got this breakthrough. So don't lose hope because we still have that device get to work. Trust me. Still remember when I said that this problem is some kind of a glitch in the software, it's no hardware.

How? Here it is.

1. You got your phone plugged for charging and message pop-out saying "Charging is not supported with this Accessory", then let it be. Just leave your phone that way. (I just did it)
2. Observe. The battery is still charging even if there's the message saying about the error. The battery percentage is going up a little (this time we have a very slow charging mode).
3. You'll certainly notice that the phone is charging, try to let it that way until the juice reached 20%. Unplugged and plug it again. By doing so, you'll have the normal charging again. Enjoy the charging again in a very normal way.

What's the catch? It's a software glitch. By the time your phone's juice reached below 20% (or may vary from other depending on the condition of battery), charging error is likely to occur. This is the case on my side.

From now on, I will not let my phone's juice go down below 20% or atleast.

Hope guys this one will work for you and let us know by leaving a comment.

F**k Apple, yes it's the f***ing software, this happen to me after the upgade 5.1.wall charger, usb, the same. search for two days no solution. not done factory reset, don't want to erase all my stuff. IOS-> I Only Stupid!! Plan is up, going for driod phones for me.

hey guys.

I have the same issue, and noticed that the phone will still charge with that error (I am using the original charger).

as a workaround, when possible, you can charge the iPhone via a computer, and that works.

indeed, it seems like a software issue.

IO6 out today will solve all that now ;-)

Well IOS6 is now out and installed on my 3gs and i am still getting the charging not supported error no matter whether i try 2 original apple cables ane of the many generic cables i have or a wall charger.

I have IOS6 too and the same error with iphone 3GS, my bactery level now is 43% and the same problem continue but I think that is charging anyway with the error present but slowing

anyone can help me sort out why it always appears this message to my iPhone 3Gs "Charging is not supported with this Accessory" even if im not charging..to the point that every seconds it pops out to my screen,it makes me crazy specially when im typing a message,i need to dismiss the message in order for me to continue..

IOS6 is bullshit , i upgraded the phone to get rid of the issue but nothing happened

we have two iphone4 both upgraded to ios 6 what a lot of crap now these phones do not charge on mains or usb and cannot connect to i tunes to downgrade after this i will never buy an apple product again i am now left with 2 very expensive paperweights due to this it is a software issue as both worked fine before the upgrade apple it appears are doing nothing to acknowledge or fix this issue time to go to android i think!!!

My husband and I did not start having this problem until we got the IOS6. Also, since then we can no longer plug our phones or ipods into the usb on the car stereo and listen to our music. It has to be a software problem because we had no problems at all until the IOS upgrade.

I have an ITouch 3rd gen having the same problem. I plug the usb into one PC at home and get the "not supported" message. I plug it in on the PC at work and it works like a charm. No clue why. Also noticed when the message pops up if it is dismissed there is a good possibility that there will still be a slow charge as mention further up this string, but there is also the possibility that what ever charge is left in the battery will be drained rather rapidly. At least that is my experience. So I do the charging at work. PS - I have also swapped USB cables (3 of them) and get the same results

having same problem, got an i phone 4 which is completely useless !!! tried 2 apple chargers 1 car charger and all say the same....charging is not supported with this accessory????? all happened since ios6 not happy!!!!!!!!

I've overcome this problem by connecting to Itunes before I connect my iphone. It's like Apple won't stop you connecting to buy some of their stuff

Started having this problem only recently. Not sure if it was before or after the upgrade from iOS6 to 6.1. Now trying this solution and hope all goes well. If not, ditch iOS6.1 and hope things will be back to normal again...

Okay... this trick is not working for my iPhoney... back to the wall charger and try to restore original iOS5 and see if the problem is gone then...

Just shoot me! I reverted back to factory defaults and nothing. Showed my wife on her laptop that the iPhoney is not charging through USB and it does on her leptop. Plugging it back in on my PC and it's charging again... *is so confused but happy*

Hi,
Thanks for the information about this Really nice Post.
repair iphone

Last night my iphone was at 3%. I plugged it in to charge. After a while I heard the buzzing notification and it started show the "Charging is not supported with this accessory" It charged to 25% but it no longer detects charging connections.

This morning my iphone appears to no longer pick up charge connections. Its now completely dead.

just change the charging bit it will be fine after that

Its not a glitch. Its just another way of the bastards at apple leeching every penny from you by only allowing you to charge with apple products. This is why i fucking despise apple.

That is some inspirational stuff. Never knew that opinions could be this varied. Thanks for all the enthusiasm to offer such helpful information here.
Wireless Phone Accessories

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4. It started right after I visited the "Genius Bar" for an unrelated issue. My phone keeps connecting/disconnecting when I plug it in to my Mac or the usb wall plug. It also keeps giving me that error message "Charging not Supported by this accessory." It's extremely frustrating and I can't find a fix online. If anyone finds one PLEASE post!

I just had this problem today for few hours and then I fixed it. I actually change provider today and had put new sim in and it started after that. I pulled sim out And put back in firmly and problem went away. I guess sim was probably loose. Try this out guys.

And getting scratches, dirt or dust, is very normal and in worst case it may fall down, hence iPhone cover is a necessary accessory you must buy while buying an iPhone 4, but protecting it with a right, proper authenticated cover is also a dicey.

E_Cell

I purchased a refurbished iPod 4th Gen a month or so ago. It is running iOS 6.1 and I just got this error moments ago while plugged into my USB on my computer.
So, is there still a glitch in the software/firmware?

I have had the "charging not supported by this accessory" pop up most times I charge the 3GS phone for about 18 months now. It used to be more intermittent in the early days but is almost all the time now . I wondered if the condition of the battery affect this problem. The phone takes a long time to charge. I have not seen a cure for this problem yet.

just move over to android. no issues like these ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I had the same problem with my iphone 4 right before it died. It felt really hot and a weird smell, I unplugged it took it to Verizon, of course 2 weeks out of warranty. I did have insurance with a $169 deductible and now to see most are having this problem. Wow they get us either way. Note: this was the same car charger as purchased when phone was gifted, no previous problems.

Sorted
I've had this problem with car charging. with three different types of charger/transmitter. After a lot of Googling, I had a moment of inspiration. I bought A 75W Compact Mains Invertor from Maplins.
Mine has at the front a usb and a 3 pin mains outlet. I use the iphone connector cable into the USB and it works!!!
There are others cheaper available on ebay and amazon which are similar.

I expect the 3 pin outlet can be used with a laptop. I'm happy as a pig in **** as it's been a big problem for me for the past several months.
